Feel your body, find your own rhythm and leave everyday life behind you: 123, 123, gliding through snow-covered forests on cross-country skis. "Climb" gentle ridges and breathe in the winter air on the descent down the opposite slope.

This is winter training at a wide range of altitudes. The cross-country ski trails along the lakes are at around 600 meters above sea level, the Römerloipe in Bad Kleinkirchheim is already a good 1,100 meters above sea level and the Schwarzsee-Hochmoor trail winds its way through the snow-covered forests on the Turracher Höhe more than 1,800 meters above sea level.
In the Millstätter See - Bad Kleinkirchheim - Nockberge region there are cross-country ski trails for all abilities. Those in Bad Kleinkirchheim have also been awarded the cross-country ski trail seal of approval by the state of Carinthia. This guarantees guaranteed snow, an athletically appealing trail length and, of course, a perfectly groomed trail!
Cross-country skiing in Carinthia
The five most beautiful trails for my endurance training
Cross-country skiers appreciate the perfectly groomed trail, which can also be mechanically snowed. It is just as suitable for first attempts as it is for extended training sessions in the great outdoors.
The panoramic trail runs 11 kilometers in classic style through the winter landscape.
The Weitental trail runs into the Weitental valley and across the romantic high moor. If you like, you can add the Hochmoor trail to the cross-country circuit.
Guests will find the start and end point of the 6 km high-altitude trail at the ski lifts directly above the Schneekönig family hotel.
If there is enough snow, the Römerloipe trail leads from Patergassen to Gnesau. The entry points are under the Kultursaal Gnesau and above the Gasthaus Wunder.
There are countless videos online on the various techniques. For the first steps on cross-country skis and to take your own technique to the next level, it is advisable to take a few lessons. In addition to taster lessons, ski and sports schools also offer group courses, private lessons and special training sessions.
This makes cross-country skiing fun!
If you're out and about on cross-country skis, you're on the right track. There are specially marked winter hiking trails for winter hikes and snowshoe tours. Cross-country skiers ski in the track. Crossing the track should be avoided. If you hear a "track" from behind, someone wants to overtake you: simply give way and let them overtake you!
Be careful on roads, slopes and crossroads. Dogs are better off on winter hiking trails. They are not allowed on the trails.
On cold days, a good, greasy face cream and/or a face scarf is recommended to keep you warm and protect your face. Good goggles are also helpful. For longer tours, for example on the Römerloipe or on the high-altitude trail, it is also advisable to take some provisions in the form of a warm drink and an energy bar.

Cross-country skiing is one of the healthiest sports. The cardiovascular system in particular benefits from training in the winter landscape. The optimum pulse rate is between 160 and 180 beats per minute, minus your own age. Regular cross-country skiing acts like a fountain of youth, training muscle groups from the neck to the legs. Cross-country skiing is a nature experience with another positive side effect: the body burns 500-700 kcal in one hour of cross-country skiing - more than in any other sport.
